[Updates: Adonis filled in a few details. 11/15]
Our second year was a big year. No more classes in the APEX – we had our own building. No more just one grade – we had freshmen and sophomores. Sixty-odd kids? Now 150. No more teensy staff of 6½ teachers and 5 others. Now just a tiny [...]

HSAS-nostalgia. HS AStalgia…
You know what “nostalgia” is. And Ostalgie is nostalgia for the east (in German), like for the chunky crosswalk man from East Berlin, pictured above, who’s going through a revival (he’s called Ampelman).
But HS Astalgia? Yup.
In 2002 they opened the school, but not the building. We were upstairs.
Upstairs?
Yup, upstairs in the APEX. An [...]

Today’s middle school event was a success. Students visited from exactly the right schools, and while we could have handled more, almost everyone who came walked away with HSAS their first choice, going into the SHSAT next week.

Little bit of progress – rough cut of senior classes allowed me to process college requests. A little better than 50% first choices – that’s better than last year. But we have to see how the registration process goes. I checked on line and only went for sections with seats available, so, maybe… The problems [...]

Everyone is glad when school is over, even those of us who like it. It’s been a long year, and a break is welcome.
I’m excited for next year. I’ll be back to scheduling and teaching just 3 classes, not 5. So while I will still be cranky, I’ll have less of a good reason.
I’ll get [...]

I walked to Kennedy Saturday. It was fun sitting in the stands and watching. Everyone was so fast!
I brought a hat, and kept it safely tucked in my bag. That way I could burn without any interference. Ouch.
I took a ton of pictures. I took 4 or 5 good pictures. Of the runners, not the [...]

Got called a jerk yesterday. And the kid (it was a kid) really meant it. I just sat there.
Hmm. I didn’t much like it. But I was pushing the kid, hard. And I’ll keep pushing the kid. Mediocre performer, not serious enough, should be a star. We’ll see.
Sometimes I am a jerk. This time? I [...]

Saturday there was a relay meet on Randalls Island. Samantha and Sophie and Casey weren’t running because Aldiana wasn’t there (sick), so I gave them my camera and they took a million pictures.
I sat with Shaunice’s mom, which was nice. And chatted with Samantha’s dad.
And watched your friends run! Amanda M. was fast! But it [...]

Friday was fun!
Two classes solved the leprechauns problem. Better than Ghost the Bunny? Maybe.
Thanks to Carl and Emmy and Livingstone and Samantha for their assistance.
And the constructions in geometry, everyone got better, didn’t they? And we played a game (will anyone find the rules over the weekend? A homework pass is at stake.)
And thanks to [...]

All of you who didn’t watch Marcus’ show, boo! It was a lot of fun. Silly, nice music, laughs.
Marcus was listed in the program (as the slave of the stage director, but still)
Did you know there is a hole in the front of the theater, and that they put an orchestra in the hole, and [...]
